Abstract

IBA applications in minerals research have begun to make an impact in the basic science as well as in the minerals industry. Micro-PIXE applications to igneous mineralogy have provided new types of information relevant to both mantle petrogenesis and diamond exploration research. Applications in sulfide mineralogy are being used for both ore genetic studies and improvements in mineral beneficiation. Progress has been made in applications of the other IBA methods. Limitations of the current methods and conditions conducive to successful applications and wider acceptance are discussed.
