Abstract
A two-tiered scenario which consists of a central macro network and a second tier inside this network is examined. This tiered structure constitutes a general framework for both heterogeneous networks and cognitive radio networks. Single-input multiple-output (SIMO) vector channels and multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) matrix channels are investigated and the second tier users form a multiple access channel with their intended base station. The aim of the research is to maximize the aggregate communication rate of second tier users under the constraint on the total interference power at the first tier user. The problem is observed for both SIMO and MIMO channels with successive interference cancellation decoders and it is seen that the solution is an iterative water-filling allocation.
