Abstract
Shane Hryhorec wears many hats - entrepreneur, disability advocate, and active community member among them - and he can now add strategic litigant to that list. In 2021, Shane initiated legal proceedings to challenge discrimination he was experiencing in his local neighbourhood. His initiative has had broad impacts on advancing inclusion and human rights in Australia.
In this conversation with Ebony Birchall, Shane reflects on his experience of strategic litigation: what led him to take action, how he navigated the process, and what lessons he hopes others might draw from it. His insights offer a valuable perspective from a rights holder at the centre of strategic litigation.
