Abstract
Examines the role of institutions in studying the employment relationship in Australia and recent challenges to this under a more decentralised and neo-liberal economic agenda. In addition, we discuss how human resource management has impacted industrial relations with arguments about how the pragmatic and policy orented focus of industrial relations remains well placed to contribute to debates about the future of work.
