Abstract
POwerset, a San Francisco-based company had gained exclusive access to parsing Web-based question-answering (QA) system from the Palo Alto Research Center. The company was inviting people to sign up for access to Powerset Labs. Meanwhile, Hakia's QA system is now available in the market and running in beta form. One such technology, a new ScoopBar tool, lets a person 'Scoop 'n Save', a user-definable text window around the answer to a local file. Other QA systems that have achieved some visibility recently are Lexxe and PowerAnswer. Although there are new players in the market, Hakia is the most inventive of all when it comes to neat add-on functionalities including the people-search. Aside from text, there are also new technologies like voice-recognition-driven directory assistance area, speech and predictive text, and speaker authentication and identification.
