Abstract
This chapter introduces students to the broad field of the history of emotion, touching on its development over the last several decades, and its key dimensions in current scholarship. It then explains the structure and logic of the volume, providing hints about how it can be used by students and scholars new to the field. A final section reflects on the limitations and gaps in the volume and field more widely, and the ways that they may be filled by future research.
