Abstract

Our research reports an innovative label-free detection methodology for measuring creatinine in kidney healthcare management at an early stage. A Micro Electro-Mechanical-Systems (MEMS)-based interdigital (ID) sensor combined with Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) technique is used in studying the reactance and capacitance properties of the serum creatinine samples. Molecularly Imprinted Polymer (MIP) having highly specific detection sites for creatinine are developed. The MEMS ID sensor's sensing area is coated with the developed MIP for selectively increasing the sensitivity and specificity of the MEMS ID sensor to creatinine. A known serum creatinine samples are tested using a developed Internet of Things (IoT) enabled Point-of-Care (PoC) diagnostic device prototype system. The developed PoC device results are cross-verified using standard Creatinine Colorimetric Assay Kit. The PoC device's obtained results are user friendly, inspiring, inexpensive, faster and precise for the early detection of creatinine rise for kidney healthcare.
