Abstract
This radio feature-documentary work is a response to the fated Burke and Wills expedition of 1860-1861. Burke and Wills tried to cross the continent of Australia from south to north but died on their return from the Gulf of Carpentaria. This radio art work was made for and broadcast by Deutschland Radio, Berlin, part of the ARD public broadcasting network of Germany. The primary author is the renowned Australian radio artist, Kaye Mortley. Sections of Mortley's script are performed with Australian voices directed and recorded by Madsen for this 54‘30 documentary feature 'sound poem', or sound-text work for music and voices. Madsen is a contributing voice director, vocalist and co-producer of the English language voices parts which contribute to this new work of audio and radio art by one of the world's leading radio auteurs. Recording/production of these voices was conducted at Macquarie University by Madsen, and drew on student participation.
