Abstract

Recruitment and retainment of the healthcare workforce is a worldwide challenge due to labor shortages, lack of qualified healthcare personnel and a major mismatch between capacity and demands.

Innovative leadership approaches have been proposed to build resilience at individual, organisational and system levels. This session will focus on the role of leaders in building resilience and mental wellbeing through fostering organizational resilience.

We will use case examples from research and practice in nursing homes, homecare, and hospitals in Norway and Australia to engage the audience in active discussions on ways to promote resilience and mental wellbeing from the participants’ diverse perspectives.

For example, this will include innovative methods to engage and support patients and caregivers, tools to support and establish well-functioning teams, relational leadership, and strategies to handle short- and long-term capacity challenges.

Session participants will:

1) Increase their knowledge about the role of leadership in facilitating resilient healthcare and mental wellbeing;

2) Learn from resilience research and practice in Norway and Australia;

3) Gain insights into how ISQua can play a key role as leadership support;

4) Discuss in groups how different leadership strategies can promote resilience and mental wellbeing and suggest new ways of innovating in the field.
