Leg oedema due to bladder overdistension

Abstract

Peripheral oedema due to pelvic vein compression is a rare complication of bladder overdistension. Case reports in the literature are few and all have concerned bladder overdistension in men. We report what we believe to be the first case of peripheral oedema due to an overdistensed bladder in an adult woman. Pari passu with the relief of bladder obstruction there was resolution of pelvic vein compression and peripheral oedema.
