Abstract

This chapter shares 11 narratives from a cross section of diverse multicultural, multiethnic and multi-language communities. The narratives reflect personal experience of culture, religious upbringing, spirituality and languages, within the Buddhist and diverse Christian faith communities. The diaspora stories frequently involve complex migration histories. The chapter includes the Russian Orthodox experience, Armenian identity, the language of Niue, the Tongan church, a Korean church experience, the Ukranian Church community, Vietnamese Catholic spirituality, the Assyrian community, and one family’s history from the former Yugoslavia. The spiritual journey identifies the importance of the fabric that bonds religion, culture and identity in language. Faith and prayer play an important role in these narrators’ life. The narratives reflect the importance of belonging to a faith community with a place of worship. The chapter represents an exploration of worldviews of spirituality, religion and language. This chapter reveals the shaping of many-layered identities of the narrators.
