Abstract

This section gives a point-in-time overview of market design principles and features framing carbon trading in the Asia Pacific region. In particular, specific analysis is provided of emerging designs in New Zealand, Japan, South Korea and Australia. The approaches vary considerably across jurisdiction given local economic and political factors. However, each country has ambitions to link their mechanisms into cross-jurisdictional architectures over time.
