Abstract

This paper presents a simple and realistic mobility model of marine fishing boat for simulating boat based communication network. The Vehicular Tolerant Network(VANET) is widely studied in the last decade. There are many mobility models to generate traces for VANET simulations. But, marine vehicle based communication network is new paradigm of Mobile Ad-hoc Network (MANET). There is no synthetic mobility model for evaluating boat based MANET applications. The proposed mobility model is designed based on known fishing strategies and fishing boat trajectories reconstruction model from Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) data. A trace generator has also been developed to provide traces for large number of nodes. The proposed mobility model is evaluated by simple statistical analysis and comparing performances with popular mobility models.
