Abstract

Mode-locked operation of a figure-of-eight erbium-doped fiber laser based on a non-linear loop mirror was studied. The high level of output self-starting mode-locked operation and pulse formation were initiated by perturbation of the intra-cavity pulses. On initiation of pulse formation, the behavior of the laser was found to be similar with respect to the pulse duration exhibiting dependency on the path averaged dispersion and spectral side bands.
