Abstract
The present study aimed to characterize a lactic acid bacterium Lactobacillus plantarum YML016 by 16 S rRNA gene sequencing and assessing its pharmacological potential in terms of α-glucosidase and tyrosinase inhibitory effects, as well as anti-viral efficacy against human pathogenic influenza A virus H1N1 using MDCK cell line. As a result, ethanolic extract of L. plantarum YML016 exhibited α-glucosidase and tyrosinase inhibitory activities by 95.83 and 73.59%, respectively in terms of its potent anti-diabetic and anti-melanogenic potential. Moreover, YML016 displayed profound anti-cytopathic effect on MDCK cell line when treated with ethanol extract (100 mg/ml) of YML016, confirming its potent anti-viral efficacy against H1N1 influenza A virus.
