Abstract

A moon-shaped printed monopole antenna for wideband circularly polarized radiation is presented in this paper. The antenna consists of a moon-shaped radiator fed by a microstrip line. The moon-shaped radiator is printed on an FR4 dielectric substrate. The moon-shaped radiator and its ground-plane are optimized for wideband radiation of circular polarization. Measured performances of the antenna are 1.49 GHz (2.25-3.74 GHz) for -10 dB S11 bandwidth, 1.48 GHz (2.28-3.76 GHz) for 3 dB axial ratio bandwidth, and gain around 1.6 dBi over the 3-dB axial ratio bandwidth. The overall antenna size is 46.6 mm × 70 mm × 0.8 mm.
