    Abstract

In an earlier letter, good ratecompatible punctured convolutional (RCPC) codes generated from rate-1/2 mother codes were reported. This paper presents more newly discovered good RCPC codes and the codes are tabulated for rate-P/(P+δ) with 3 ≤ P ≤ 6, 1 ≤ δ ≤ (n-1)P and n=3. These RCPC codes, generated by periodically puncturing their best rate-1/3 mother codes of memory M = 5 and 6, were also selected based on a true high-rate structure and a criterion of maximizing the free distance of the codes. The new codes are expected to have practical interest and applications in unequal error protection schemes employing Viterbi decoding.
