Abstract
A numerical study has been made of the energy transfer in a rectangular cavity, one wall of which is transparent. Two situations have been considered: (a) a flat-plate solar collector of high aspect ratio (approximately 40) with short-wave solar energy input and long wave internal and external radiation; (b) low aspect ratio cavities (6 and 3 1/3), such as a double glazed oven window, in which the rear wall is independently heated, with long wave internal and external radiative energy transfer. In each case, natural convection within the cavity and free or forced convection on the exterior surface of the window have been considered.
