Abstract
A/HRC/60/25
In the present report, submitted pursuant to Human Rights Council resolutions 33/14 and 51/7, the Special Rapporteur on the right to development, Surya Deva, focuses on the mutually reinforcing nexus between gender equality and the right to development. He describes the ways in which gender equality for girls and women would lead to the realization of their right to development and how realizing their right to development would result in gender equality. Ensuring gender equality for girls and women would also contribute to creating a more inclusive, peaceful and sustainable world. The Special Rapporteur explains the ways in which various aspects of the right to development, such as the collective dimension, participation in decision-making, fair distribution, intersectionality and international cooperation, should be leveraged to achieve substantive gender equality in society.
