Abstract
North American geography has been dominated in recent decades by a concern with what is where, with the artefacts produced by society, rather than with society itself. More recently, attention has begun to shift towards the experience of urban social life and the actual causes of the segregated city. Social geography, emphasising the fundamental role of structured social relations in the creation and re-creation of environments, may soon come to occupy a much more central stage. -J.Sheail
