    Abstract

In spite of the fact that a number of prominent experts have agreed that a connection exists between the generation gathered round the journal Krugovi and that of the so called neorealists, up to now little has been written on the subject. This paper attempts to determine one of the origins of Ferić’s prose, or more precisely, the one linked to Novak's novellas and his novel Outboard Journal. It is argued in the work that these two opuses correspond not only in terms of space (in the form of a symbolic or real island and the disintegration of the collective the archetypal state of which is being appealed to on a number of levels in both opuses), but that generically some elements (grotesque) of the turn of events in Ferić’s plot have, among other, their origin in Novak’s prose structures.
