Abstract

The Busselton Sleep Cohort is the only long-term community-based data in Australia investigating the objective prevalence of snoring or sleep apnoea, identifying their risk factors, and quantifying the long-term risks for diabetes, cardiovascular disease, stroke, cancer, and mortality. The associations that have emerged from this and other community studies have generated a raft of hypotheses that explore causative mechanisms, as discussed in the subsequent chapters. There are currently five research publications from the Busselton Sleep Apnoea cohort.
