Abstract
This 350 000 square kilometre basin occupies southern Namibia, western Botswana and north-western South Africa. This article reports results of hydrocarbon prospects in the basin. Four unsuccessful wells have been drilled, however numerous shows suggested significant hydrocarbon accumulations. Results of biomarker and isotopic analyses are presented. These indicate source matter is from a saline lacustrine setting. Well-known analogs are outlined.
