Abstract
The subject-matter presented as geography through popular media, such as geographical magazines, often appears to pay little regard to the academic/school discipline of Geography. Recent developments in a number of those magazines clearly illustrate the lack of interaction between the two, a lack that is long-established in some countries (such as the USA) but one which has developed more recently elsewhere (as in the UK). Such a divide poses major issues for the academic discipline, which geographers need to address.
