Abstract

On June 29, 2002, an earthquake with magnitude of 7.2 and depth of 593 km occurred in Wangqing County, Jilin Province. This is an important event since Kunlun Mountain earthquake occurred on November 14 of 2001. This paper discussed the possible relation between both areas seismicity and characteristics of ground tilt and short leveling variations in recent years. Finally, the characteristics of deformation fields related to seismicity are proposed: 1 Anomalous steps of ground deformation may be observed 2 ∼ 4 years before the earthquake occurrence. 2 The characteristics of ground tilts near the source in Northeast China region migrated away. 3 Anomaly images of short leveling in North China region showed wave anomaly, which migrated toward Tancheng-Lujiang fault zone.
