Abstract
A kinetic scheme developed by Lotka and applied to cool flames by later workers is shown not to exhibit sustained oscillations as was previously thought. The sustained oscillation is shown to be due to an effective source term arising from neglect of fuel consumption. It is pointed out that quite general theorems already in the literature are in conflict with the purely kinetic theory of cool flames.
