Abstract
In a previous edition of SEN, we introduced the Opening Real Science (ORS) project, a new national initiative in primary science teacher education supported by the Australian Government's Office for Learning and Teaching, and the Office of Chief Scientist, aimed at building scientific and mathematical literacy amongst pre-service teachers. Macquarie University leads the team of seven Australian universities; the University of Western Sydney, Charles Sturt University, Australian Catholic University, University of Canberra, University of Notre Dame and Edith Cowan University; along with three partner organisations; CSIRO Astronomy and Space Science, the Australian Astronomical Observatory (AAO) and Las Cumbres Observatory Global Telescope; in engaging the next generation of teachers in 'real and authentic' science and mathematics.
