Abstract

The meymechites of the Maymecha-Kotuy province is studied to determine the bedrock platinum mineralization in the ultramafics. The composition of the meymechite was compared to the dunite and komatiite. It was observed that there are more magnesium and titanium in meymechites as compared to komatiites. Trace elements and siderophile varieties content in meymechite, komatiite and dunite were more or less constant, except for vanadium. The platinum group elements in meymechites are on the same level as dunites, but the distribution is different, with palladium and platinum content abounding in the meymechite. The distribution patterned of the platinum metals (Pd > Pt > Os > Ru > Ir > Rh) are the same in the three minerals. Meymechites contained more platinum metal elements than komatiite, which showed their enrichment in incongrous elements. This phenomenon of high Pt-metal element content of meymechites may be attributed to their enrichment in the zone where the rocks are formed.
