Abstract

This paper describes the implementation of a mobile learning resource, StudyTXT, which utilises cell phone technology within an introductory accounting decision-making course. The paper explains the philosophy of the course and how the educational rationale underlying the use of StudyTXT might facilitate the attainment of the course objectives. The paper further illustrates how StudyTXT is developed, implemented and used in the course, with references to appropriate literature. A questionnaire-based evaluation of StudyTXT by students reports on their perceptions about the impact of the teaching resource, as well as about the factors that either encouraged students to or discouraged them from using StudyTXT. The paper concludes with suggestions for the further improvement and utilisation of the resource.
