    Abstract

Our recent continuum model for collective polarization dynamics in polar liquids is consolidated and used to examine the dielectric friction on a translating ion. Dielectric relaxation of the solvent via the new translational diffusion channel, which supplements the familiar Debye channel, leads to a substantial lowering of the dielectric friction.
