Abstract
The conceptions about simple electrical circuits of 26 pre-service science teachers who have taken a course in general physics were investigated in this study. The pre-service teachers displayed limited conceptions about making simple circuits because they lacked understanding of concepts about the terminals of electric bulbs. Also, they held several conceptions about the brightness of bulbs in separate simple series and parallel circuits that may be classified into four categories, namely acceptable scientific conceptions, limited scientific conceptions, confused conceptions and naive conceptions. However, in the case of combined series and parallel electrical circuits, the teachers were found to hold only scientifically acceptable conceptions, limited scientific conceptions and confused conceptions.
