    Abstract

Samples of ZnSe with a novel 3D structure have been successfully synthesized by chemical vapour deposition method, simply using Zn and Se powder sources without any catalysts. The ZnSe nanorods grew on the facets of ZnSe particles and their length increases with the growth time increasing. The ZnSe samples grew on the inner wall of the alumina crucible with Zn source. The morphologies and structures of nanorods and particles were characterised by a scanning electron microscopy, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction, and their photoluminescence properties were also measured at different temperatures. Results show that the nanorods are single crystals and the particles are also crystalline materials. The ZnSe samples show two emission bands at 467 and 605 nm, respectively.
