Abstract
The epithelium lining the villus of the small intestine is considered as a compartment in the replacement kinetics o f the intestinal epithelium. The three interrelated properties o f the compartment - size, flux and transit time are examined, and numerical estimates of their size in rat and mouse are given. Attention is paid to sources o f error which may affect the precision of such estimates.
