Abstract

An attempt is made to discuss the tremendous potential of clean electricity to overcome the energy and environmental challenges face by the world. The renewable sources of energy (RE), mainly solar energy, wind power, and hydropower, including geothermal and biomass have given great emphasis in the hunger search for cheap, continuous, and sustainable energy. The world has gone through many research and technological challenges to surpass the conventional sources of carbon-based energy production, to encounter environmental pollution. We have tried to address some of the specific constraints that hinder the development of solar and other RE sources. Appropriate referential statistical data has been provided to evaluate the race for sustainable green and clean energy over a conventional one. The development and progress of the photovoltaic cells have proven to be a long run companion to meet the green and clean energy in the present and future.
