Abstract
The Sterile Insect Technique (SIT) is used in Australia to control Queensland fruit flies Bactrocera tryoni. In SIT, millions of flies are produced in a factory rendered sterile by irradiation, and then released into nature. In essence, sex is the 'active ingredient' of SIT - more sexually proficient males men better pest control.
