Abstract
Electric vehicles (EVs) can promote place-based decarbonization and aid in developing sustainable city environments. However, the current adoption of EVs is relatively low for some developed countries such as Australia. Transport users in Australia report various psychological uncertainties in adopting EV-based mobilities. This paper presents a literature review on the psychological hesitancies of adopting EVs, aiming to better inform policymakers and provide direction for future research. The present paper does not cover all the material available topic. It does, however, incorporate key publications of the subject at hand, with essential investigations of earlier papers in the field. This paper is exploratory in nature and utilizes a systematic methodology of conducting the literature review. This process involves gathering relevant literature in the field, utilizing search strategies, identifying primary keywords, and based on a systematic criterion, categorizing the relevant literature into key psychological factors. An analysis of the relevant material suggests three key psychological factors that impact EV adoption: Range consciousness, attitudes and experiences, and anticipated emotion and moral norms An analysis of the relevant material suggests three key psychological factors that impact EV adoption: Range consciousness, attitudes and experiences, and anticipated emotion and moral norms. These results aim to guide policymakers, the energy sector and scholars on the psychological factors that may prevent the uptake of EVs in Australia. Future research can also investigate the topics discussed in this research to expand its scope and address its limitations.
