Abstract

This scholarly introduction explores the impact of the cultural turn, and especially the history of emotions, on British legal history across the long eighteenth century. It provides a ‘state of the field’ survey of the secondary literature, before exploring how current research has been enabled through utilising methodologies and approaches from cultural and emotions history. The chapter then situates the volume, and particular contributions, within this state of the field, highlighting how they advance argument and historical contributions on the topic. It also sets out an agenda for future work that builds on this foundation.
