Abstract
This article explores the form and value of the 'ideas network' ABC Radio National within traditions of public service broadcasting and 'cultural radio'; and asks why this broadcaster and 'cultural institution' might be so little understood, or undervalued, within public service broadcasting traditions and contexts, especially in recent times? The article also highlights innovation and creativity within this network, especially with the introduction of podcasting.
