Abstract
This article looks at the role of book reviews in the English K-6 syllabus in New South Wales and how the revision in 1998 with new syllabus and support documents provided excellent strategies for teaching about literature reviews, why they are written and how to write them. Syllabus documents emphasise the importance of teaching this topic, and that students write reviews for real social purposes and real audiences. The experiences of teachers at Stanmore Public School (NSW) are described.
