Abstract

In this paper, measurements of the slope efficiency and the pump power at threshold for a range of Tm/sup 3+/ concentrations, which are doped into the fibre using the solution doping technique are presented. The temporal characteristics of a standing wave Tm/sup 3+/-doped silica fibre laser are also presented. The results from characterisation experiments relating to the high power operation of a Tm/sup 3+/-doped silica fibre laser that has the Tm/sup 3+/ dopant incorporated into the fibre using the chelate 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-3,5- heptanedione are presented.
