Redistribution and welfare reconsidered

Abstract

An issue that has been extensively investigated in the literature involves the effects of transfers of endowments (or income), among agents in the economy (or among countries in the world). One might expect that the welfare analysis of such transfers would be reasonably straightforward. That this is not the case is testimony to how subtle comparative static effects can be in multi-good, multi-agent economies. In this paper we attempt contribute to the analysis of the welfare effects of certain transfer policies.
