Abstract

This paper describes a method to enhance antenna directivity by engineering the reflection phase characteristics of a simple one-dimensional (1-D) EBG superstrate. The proposed EBG structure is composed of three identical uniform dielectric slabs. The profile of the reflection phase curve of the superstrate assembly helps to satisfy the necessary conditions for directivity enhancement at three distinct frequency bands.
