Regulator's plan falls short

Research output: Contribution to journalLetter

Abstract

AEMO's Integrated System Plan ("Keep coal burning for long term", July 17) falls seriously short of providing a cohesive energy plan for Australia. There is clearly no understanding of how to successfully retire unsustainable infrastructure such as the Liddell coal-fired plant. Instead, the report calls to exploit the economic life of high-polluting infrastructures.

We need to accelerate the transition to cleaner technology and focus on how to support businesses and savvy investors to seize the economic opportunities from investments in clean energy.
