Abstract
The Martin Luther King Jr. Federal Holiday commemorates the civil rights movement's most charismatic leader - but does it recognise the scope and radicalism of King's vision? Instead, these writings posit the movement in a longer view, as part of a continuous 'freedom struggle' beginning in the early twentieth century.
