Abstract

This report is inspired by the efforts of the Australian government, which
legislated the plain packaging of all tobacco products from December 1, 2012.
Plain packaging legislation prohibits the use of corporate logos, colours, brand
images or promotional information on the packaging of tobacco products. Brand
and product name use is allowed in a prescribed, colour, style, font, and location.
Consumer information, such as toxic constituents and pictorial health warnings
required by law, remain on the package and are rendered more prominent on
plainly packaged products.
