Abstract

In order to provide users with better service experience, and to maximize the system throughput and guarantee the target coverage probability, an adaptive multicast transmission scheme was proposed, which could adaptively choose the conventional one-stage multicast and cooperative two-stage multicast for transmission according to the number of users in the cell. When the number of user is higher than a threshold, the cooperative multicast is employed. Otherwise, the conventional multicast is used. It is shown by simulations that the when the number of users is small, the conventional multicast can provide better performance than the cooperative multicast. However, when the user number is large, the system throughput of cooperative multicast significantly outperforms that of the conventional scheme. Combining the advantages of the conventional and cooperative multicast, the proposed adaptive scheme can always achieve good throughput performance with any number of users.
