Resource allocation for energy efficient large-scale distributed systems

Until recently energy issues have been mostly dealt with by advancements in hardware technologies, such as low-power CPUs, solid state drives, and energy-efficient computer monitors. Energy-aware resource management has emerged as a promising approach for sustainable/green computing. We propose a holistic energy-aware resource management framework for distributed systems. This framework will seamlessly integrate a set of both site-level and system-level/service-level energy-aware scheduling schemes. One of our previous works as an example implementation of the framework is presented in this paper. The performance of the algorithm in this example implementation has been shown to be very appealing in terms particularly of energy efficiency.
