Abstract

The prospects for radar altimetry over lakes are discussed. The uses of lake altimetry data are summarized and the major scientific interest in lake levels as a monitor of climate are noted. The sensitivity of lake level to climatic change is determined by a number of geographical criteria, and a possible role for radar altimetry in the climatology of lakes is outlined.
