    Abstract

The Serbian Empire is the product of policies and military success of the Serbian king Stefan Uroš IV, better known as Stefan Dušan (r.1331–1355), who crowned himself the emperor "of the Serbs and the Greeks" in 1346. The empire effectively existed in name until the death of Dušan's son Uroš in 1371, when it split into smaller parts.
