Silurian conodont biostratigraphy in Australia: a review and critique

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

An overview of all documented occurrences, with and without illustrated forms, of Silurian conodonts in Australia is presented. Illustrated and unillustrated faunas are reinterpreted and implications for age determinations and correlation of specific horizons are noted. Zonal schemes suggested on the basis of Australian sequences are assessed and some modifications proposed. These data are integrated with available graptolite data and compared with conodont zonations based on northern hemisphere sequences. The potential of Australian sequences for resolving stage, series and systemic boundaries utilizing conodonts is indicated.
